Sanjay Dutt Out on Bail

Sanjay Dutt, sentenced to 6 years imprisonment under the Arms Act in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, has been granted bail today by the Supreme Court.

Sanjay was convicted for taking an AK-56 rifle and a pistol from gangsters which were found to be linked to the bombings in which 257 people were killed in Mumbai.

He is likely to freed by Wednesday, his attorney said, adding that prosecutors did not oppose the bail plea.
Dutt has maintained he knew nothing about the bomb plot, claiming he got the guns to protect his family — his mother was Muslim, and his father, Hindu — after receiving threats during sectarian riots in Mumbai.

This is good news for Bollywood and specially favours the producers of films, in which Sanjay is acting and were stopped due to his imprisionment. They include Mr Fraud, Kidnap and Easy Monthly Installment.

“It is a very happy moment for us,” says Dharam Oberoi, chief executive officer of Sanjay Dutt Productions.

Sanjay’s next film Dus Kahaniyan with Sanjay Gupta will release on December 7.
